Eighteen clubs play in Dutch Eredivisie football. The number eighteen stems from its genesis where two times nine clubs from two primary leagues combined to form the new Eredivisie.

Ajax has won the most Eredivisie championships with thirty-six titles, followed by PSV with twenty-four titles and Feyenoord with 15 titles. AZ have been national champions twice, Sparta and Twente have one title each.

In the financial crisis of 2008-2012, several clubs playing in the First Division went bankrupt. This left only 16 teams competing in the league. The addition of Jong Ajax, Jong PSV and Jong AZ (and later Utrecht and Twente) allowed the league to go back to 20 teams.

In the First Division, new strikers rise every year to make more than 25. Betting on the First Division top scorer is therefore our favourite bet. With eight Eredivisie-worthy teams, the outright winner bet is also worthwhile.

FC Eindhoven have played continuously in the Eerste Divisie since 1977, but have never won the title. However, the club did win the KNVB Cup and the precursor to the Eredivisie.
