What is a Sports Betting Cashback Bonus?

No surprise here, the Cashback Bonus is a bonus that can be taken quite literally. In the case that lady luck is not on your side, you get some money back on your losses.

The amount of money you get back is (pretty much always) a percentage with a maximum amount. For example, consider a 10% Sports Betting Cashback up to £500. The percentage usually fluctuates somewhere between 5% and 30%. Percentage and maximum amount are variables the bookmaker can play with.

Therefore, always check carefully how our Cashback Bonus is communicated. How much do you actually get back in case of a loss? And how does that compare to what you wagered?

Example: that £500 from the example is the max cashback returned if you bet and lost £5,000. Did you lose £200? Then you’d get a £20 cashback.

What types of Cashback Bonuses are there?

Although the name Cashback Bonus suggests that you always get money back, this is not entirely true. In fact, you can also get it back in the form of a Free Bet. There are also Sports Betting Cashbacks on lost combination bets, called Accumulator or Acca. And there are Cashbacks from bookmakers on 0-0 matches. We explain all the variants.

Real Money Cashback

This is a variant particularly appreciated by players. Which is why it’s the most common cashback Mobile Wins Sports offers. The premise is straightforward: you get real money back in your account. Without further conditions or anything else. It does not have to be played around and can simply be withdrawn. Or you can leave it and use it for new bets. In this case it’s effectively a free bet, but as mentioned, with no fine print.

Free Bet Cashback

You get (part of) your lost bet back in the form of a Free Bet. This also comes with specific conditions. If you win on a Free Bet, for instance, you will not get your bet back. In addition, there will be wagering conditions. That will be somewhere between 1-10x. In addition, pay attention to the level of odds set in the conditions. Only bets wagered with odds above 1.45 or 1.50 for example will count.

Acca Cashback

There are other bookmakers that offer a safety net on combination betting. Think of it as cancellation insurance. It works as follows. A player bets on a combination bet (‘Acca bet’) that includes five or more selections.

So the Acca is made up of five or more separate bets, which together form one bet. You only have to lose one of those bets to lose the total combination bet.

Now should that be the case, you have one losing bet, you get your stake back from the bookmaker.

Why bookmakers do this? For the simple reason that they want to encourage players to put as much selection into their Acca as possible. This, in fact, makes the advantage in terms of profit margin increasingly favourable for the bookie.

Cashback at No Goals

A sympathetic Sports Betting Cashback as far as we are concerned. The so-called ‘Bore Draw Insurance’ in which a player betting on the correct score gets a cashback in case of a bloodless 0-0.

Unsurprisingly, this cashback only applies to bets made before kick-off. A pre-match bet, in other words. Live bets are excluded. You usually get the cashback in the form of a Free Bet, where your bet is matched. So if you bet £50 on Liverpool winning against Arsenal in the Premier League with a score of 3-1 and it ends in 0-0, you get a £50 Free Bet.

Is a Cashback Bonus a Risk-Free Bet?

Some Sports Betting Cashback Bonuses are presented as a Risk-Free Bet. But this does depend a bit on which type of Cashback Bonus we are talking about and how you look at it.

A Cashback based on a percentage is not risk-free as far as we are concerned. At most, it limits your losses.

A Cashback based on a Free Bet amounting to your stake is closer to being a risk-free bet. Let’s put aside the terms and conditions of the Free Bet for the sake of convenience.

However, it should be noted that there is always a maximum amount you will get back. In short, if you are offered a risk-free bet worth €20 and you bet double the amount, you will effectively get 50% back on balance.

And taking another look at the Acca Cashback, your bet is not risk-free in that situation either. After all, you only get your bet back if you lose the Acca based on a single selection. If you lose based on, say, two matches, the Cashback will also be forfeited.

What conditions apply?

A number of conditions have, of course, already been reviewed. Let’s start by saying that with every bookmaker bonus, you should look carefully at the conditions. It sounds strange to say, but of course you don’t have to claim every bonus.

In fact, some bonuses are less attractive than they seem. Or may not suit you as a player. Betting Masters always says: chase bonuses, but not all of them. Back to the Cashback Bonus. What conditions should you consider?

  • Only valid on a specific sporting event and not on other bets.
  • There is a limited validity period during which you can benefit from the Cashback Bonus.
  • There is basically a maximum amount you can get back.
  • Sometimes you get the Sports Betting Cashback Bonus as real money, more often as Free Bet.
  • This Free Bet has wagering requirements and must be cashed in within a certain period of time.
  • There are minimum odds you have to bet on before you are eligible for the Cashback.
  • The same applies to the Free Bet’s redemption conditions.
  • Cashback Bonuses cannot be accumulated or combined.
  • You are only eligible for a Cashback Bonus if you bet with real money. A bet with bonus money is excluded.

Is a Sports Betting Cashback Bonus worth it?

The short answer: YES.

From safety net to risk-free bet, the Cashback Bonus is undeniably a nice gift for players. But look carefully at the terms and conditions and especially the risks you take with the bet. Are you entering the bet because of the Cashback Bonus? Or would you have entered into this bet otherwise?

In this, be honest with yourself. We know better than anyone how tempting ‘Risk-free Betting’ sounds. But the trick is not to let yourself be tempted to take more risk than you normally would. In doing so, you always end up losing. If not sooner, then later. And as ambassadors of Responsible Gaming, we feel obliged to point this out to you.

So choose the Cashback Bonuses with the most value for you, do research prior to betting and then bet. Then all you have to do is wait and see if you win. Or smile to receive a Cashback.
